Cost of Study and Living in Serbia

Serbia is an affordable study destination. Read on to know about the tuition fees, living expenses, health care, travel and accommodation options for students in Serbia. 

Living Expenses

Students can expect to pay between €150 and €200 per month for 1 bedroom apartment. For 3-bedroom, students can expect to spend € 200 to € 300, depending on the location-city centre or outside city centre. 
For utilities, you can expect to spend €150 to €200 per month. 

Tuition Fees

Serbian at the public higher education institutions for Serbian citizens is free. International students are required to pay the fees, but that is low.  The private higher education institutions in Serbia charge fees from all. 

The tuition fee is set by the individual higher education institution and is generally between EUR 500 to EUR 2500 per year. To know the exact tuition fee, contact the respective institution.

Student Accommodation

In Serbia, accommodation is easily available. Following accommodation options are available for students:

Student dormitories: Most of the higher education institutions in Serbia provide student dormitories to students. All the necessary facilities are offered. Single, double and triple bed-rooms are available. The price varies depending on the number of students sharing the room.

Arriving to Serbia

Students can come to Serbia by train, air, bus or car.

By Air

The main air hub of Serbia is Nikola Tesla international airport. This airport is in Belgrade and many European and other airlines fly from here. Also, there are airports in the Nis city- the Constantine the Great Airport in Nis. 
 In Serbia, there is a bus service available for all passengers to and from the airport.

By Bus

In Serbia, there are many bus services operating that connects cities within the country and also with major cities in Western and Central Europe. The main bus hub of Serbia is in Belgrade. The international bus carrier is Lasta Eurolines.

By Train

Travelling by train is inexpensive.  The train network is managed by the Serbian Railways. There are many discount cards, such Rail Plus, InterRail, Easy Travel Card, EuroDomino, ISIC, the uniform Balkan tariff, etc. With this card, one can get discount on travelling by train to Serbia. 

By Car

Health Care

The Ministry of Health and Environmental Protection manages the health care system in Serbia. 
International students are given medical care during their stay in Serbia. The health care conditions vary depending on the agreement Serbia has with other countries. International students must possess a valid health insurance from their home country. They can also take private health insurance in Serbia. The health insurance is compulsory.
